Mary E. “Mary Beth” Parker, 72, of Ord passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at her home outside of Ord, Nebraska.
Mrs. Parker’s wishes were to be cremated. Her life will be honored on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with a dinner reception at the Country Neighbor. Private Inurnment will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Elizabeth was born March 27, 1942, at Ord, Nebraska to Dillo and Alyce (Novotny) Troyer. She was raised in Ord where she received her education and graduated from Ord High School in 1960.
Mary Beth continued her education at Creighton University in Omaha where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. While at Creighton she met Gordon Parker. The couple was united in marriage in 1964, at St. John’s Church on the Campus of Creighton University. They continued to live in Omaha until moving to Gordon’s hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
While in Kalamazoo, their son, Scott was born. Mary Beth worked as a Registered Nurse at Borgess Hospital; then as an Obstetrics Nurse for the Chief of Staff at Bronson Hospital; and as an Industrial Nurse at Eckrich Meats. Gordon and Mary Beth also owned and operated Fin ‘n Feather Marine, a marina and sporting complex in Kalamazoo for over twenty years.
In 1997, the couple moved to Ord to be near Mary Beth’s family. They settled in their country home outside of Ord. Mary Beth worked as a RN for the Valley County Health System. She made many friends and cared for many people as a Home Health and Hospice Nurse until her recent retirement in January of 2014.
Mary Beth enjoyed auctions, gardening, animals and the wildlife at her country home. She had a very giving soul and enjoyed caring for people.
She is survived by her son, Scott Parker of Baltimore, Maryland; a brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Virginia Troyer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a niece, Dr. Julie Troyer of Lake Park, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Gordon who passed away on February 18, 2012.
