Arizona Governor (1941-1948). A newspaperman and territorial politician, Osborn was elected Governor as a Democrat in 1940. A very popular chief executive, he was reelected three times. During his administration, the state recovered from the Great Depression, the population doubled, and the water shortage became more evident. He relied on radio broadcasts to win popular support for his measures, but frequently was at odds with the state legislature. In 1945, an impeachment attempt by the legislature failed. He died in office on May 25, 1948.
