Charles the son of Charles R. Parker and Mildred Parker of Royal Oak Michigan enlisted in the US Marine Corps on February 28 1968 in Detroit. He arrived in Vietnam on August 28 1968 where he was assigned to and served with Company H, BLT (Battalion Landing Team) 2/26, 9th MAB, FMFPac.

At the beginning of October the BLT continued to participate in Operation LANCASTER II, TROUSDALE NORTH under the operational control of the 9th Marines in northern Quang Tri Province. On October 1, part of the BLT was transported from the Command Post on LZ Margo some 9 kilometers northeast to the southern portion of the DMZ.

On October 8 Company H, engaged a NVA force in the vicinity of Dong Ong Cay mountain during the fire fights with the enemy three men were killed in the action and fifteen were wound, one would later die after evacuation. One of the casualties was PFC Parker, wounded and evacuated to the US Naval Hospital Ship the USS Repose he died on October 23 from the gunshot wound he sustained.
