Gary the son of Raymond R. Seymour and Beverly R. Seymour of Hazel Park Michigan enlisted in the US Marine Corps on November 21 1967 in Detroit. He arrived in Vietnam on May 2 1968 where he was assigned to and served with Company I, 3d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the entire month of June the Battalion was placed under the operational control of the 7th Marine. Participation in Operation ALLEN BROOK was terminated during the first week of June with the remainder of the month the Marines were engaged in Operation MAMELUKE THRUST in the Quan Duc Duc District of Quang Nam Province.

On June 15, Company I became heavily engaged with a large enemy unit sustaining numerous casualties, Marine artillery support was request as the men prepared to evacuate their casualties an artillery short round impacted within the Marines perimeter. One of the casualties from the errant artillery round was PFC Gary Seymour who was killed by the multi fragmentation wounds inflicted to his body.
