Author. He was born Gerard Kornelis Van Het Reve in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He began his career as a journalist, working for the newspaper "Het Parool." His first novel "De Avonde", (The Evenings, 1947) was a success and won the Reina Prinsen Geerligs Prize. He also wrote "The Acrobat and Other Stories," "Op Weg Naar Het Einde" (Approaching the End), and "Nader Tot U" (Nearer to Three). With "Lieve Jongens" (Dear Boys), where he dealt openly with his homosexuality and broke this taboo in the dutch literature, becoming a pioneer in his contribution to the liberalization of attitudes toward homosexuality. He died in Zulte, Belgium of Alzheimer's disease.
