Earl Stephen Bevan was the 2nd of 10 children born to William H and Esther J Duvall Bevan on Tuesday, 3 Oct 1876, in the state of OH.

At the age of 23 he married Minnie Lewellen on Sunday (Christmas Eve), 24 Dec 1899, in Roane County, WV.

Earl and Minnie had 6 children together. The 1st 3 children, all girls, were born in rural Roane County, WV: Bessie Marie, Clara E and Goldie D Bevan. Then they moved to Maryland where their 1st son, Millard E Bevan, was born. They were in the state of New York long enough for Minnie to give birth to their 5th child and 2nd son, William Henry Bevan. They finally came back home to WV in time for Earl to register for the WWI draft in Harrison County, WV in 1918, which is where, a year later, their 6th and final child and son, Harmon E Bevan, was born.

At the time of his marriage to Minnie - and for the enumeration of the 1900 federal census - he was a farmer. At the time of the 1910 census he was a Sawyer in a saw mill. By the time he registered for the WWI draft in 1918 (and for the 1920 census, as well) he worked in the coal mines. Then the 1930 census found him trying his hand at farming again; but in the end, from at least the time of the 1940 census (when he was 63 years of age) until he was no longer able to work, he returned to being a Sawyer in the lumbering industry.

Earl and Minnie Bevan had to endure every parent's worst nightmare during all of this working to make ends meet: the loss of one of their children. William Henry Bevan went into a mine when he was 15 years old and the mine caved in on him. This happened to William, and thus to Earl and Minnie Bevan, on Monday, 8 Aug 1927, in Pleasant Dale, Preston County, WV.

For some time before he contracted the bronchopneumonia that would end his life, Earl was living in Pugh's Nursing Home for some reason that this writer is unaware of.

Earl Stephen Bevan passed away nearly 19 years after the death of his son on Friday, 11 May 1956, at the age of 79 in Monongalia General Hospital of the above mentioned malady - bronchopneumonia.

From this very distant descendant, all I can say at this point in my narrative is may you rest in peace and may God keep you safe in His loving care.
