Joseph Russell was born on July 24, 1933 in Boston MA. He made his religious profession as a Dominican friar and given the name Benjamin on August 31, 1954. He was ordained on June 4, 1960.

Fr Russell taught at Fenwick High School, Rosary College (River Forest IL), Edgewood College (Madison WI) and Aquinas Institute of Philosophy, where he was also Master of Students for the Dominican Community. He was Pastor at Blessed Sacrament Parish (Madison WI) from 1971-77 and Pastor at St Vincent Ferrer Parish (River Forest IL) from 1990-96, before retiring to limited service and eventually becoming Superior at the St Thomas Aquinas Community in West Lafayette IN.

Fr Russell died on August 11, 2014 in Chicago IL. He is survived by one brother, Thomas (Mary Ann) Russell and numerous nieces and nephews, and is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Joseph.

On August 16, 2014, the reception of the body and Office of the Dead were recited at St Vincent Ferrer Church in River Forest. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines IL.
