Mrs. Phyllis Jean Compton, age 75, of Council, Virginia, passed away Friday (November 28, 2014) in a Grundy, Virginia, hospital. Born July 2, 1939 in Council, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Verdie and Ethel Ball Tiller. She had lived several years in Tennessee prior to moving back to Council. She was a member of Bee Pentecostal Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Byrd Compton, one daughter, Shelia Ann Ramsey, three brothers, Vernon, Duke, and Jim Tiller, one granddaughter, Crystal Compton, one great-grandson, Brantley, and one daughter-in-law, Rebecca Compton.
Survivors include four sons, Randy Compton and wife, Barbara of Council, Jerry Compton and wife, Diana of Honaker, Larry Compton and wife, Carol of Council, and Kenny Compton and friend, Lois McGlothlin of Lebanon; one sister, Lorraine Farmer of Big A Mountain; one brother, Ferrell Tiller of Council; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one expected great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Giles Ball and Rev. James Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Larry Byrd Compton, Luke Whited, Brandon Ramsey, Christopher Compton, Allen Nuckles, and Stanley Lester.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Hurley, Ed Duty, Ernie Ball, Guy Tiller, and Lonnie Tiller.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Sunday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
