Aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-24D Liberator #42-40144, operating from Biggs Army Airfield on the night of February 12, 1943. He was killed when the bomber crashed due to multiple engine failures caused by severe icing of the carburetors, eight miles northwest of Roswell, New Mexico. Seven other crewmembers also perished. Only one survived by successful bailout and parachuted to ground without injury.
