The 1880 census shows William had a sister Lenora, two years his elder.

Family stories (told by his granddaughter-in-law, who knew his wife Vida quite well) have it that one day he went out for the proverbial cigarettes and never came back, leaving behind his wife and 6* small children. I haven't found anything to verify this, other than his having died in Oklahoma while his wife was living in California.

At the time of the 1910 census, he was still living with his family, and employed as a ginner at a cotton gin. His World War I draft card from 1917 shows him living in Booneville, Arkansas and gives his occupation as "machinist", working in Little Rock. His signature on that card leaves out the "k" in "Frederick". It also says he was 5' 10" tall and had blue eyes and brown hair.

His father's name was William Elijah. Two of his sons who died young were named William Earl and Billy. His eldest surviving son, A.J., named his eldest son William Brackett. That William's daughter (the memorial manager) named her eldest son William Brian.
