Winker, Lewis Herbert 88, of New Hope, MN, passed away on July 21, 2013, at St. Therese Nursing home in that city. Lewis was born on November 27, 1924, in Little Falls, MN, to Lewis E. and Cecilia C. (Feuerstein) Winker. He grew up on a farm near Randall, MN, and graduated from Little Falls High School in 1942. He saw action in WWII as a waist gunner and radar jammer in a B-17 based out of Polebrook, England. Lew graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1951 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was hired by Minneapolis Honeywell and worked there until his retirement in 1986. He married Marguerite Louise Lux on April 22, 1950, in Sauk Centre, MN. They lived in Crystal and New Hope, MN, raising a family of five. He was a parishioner at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Crystal, and was in the Knights of Columbus, Crystal Council. Lew was handy with woodworking and with cars, was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Lew was a fan of Big Band music and jazz. He spent most summer weekends with his wife at their cabin on Platte Lake. Lew was a fan of auto racing and vintage aircraft. He was a member of American Legion Aviation Post 511. After his retirement he worked as a volunteer at the Minnesota Air National Guard Museum in St. Paul. Lew is survived by his wife, Marguerite; sons, Timothy, Mike (Linda) and Jerry (Nicole); daughters, Patricia Winker and Monica (Lindsay) Winker-Bergstrom; by nine grandchildren, Kylle, Raymond & Frederick Jordan, Katherine & Laura Bergstrom, Meagan & Patrick Winker, Rhys & Bryn Winker; brothers, James of Sioux Falls, SD and Frederick of Prior Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kevin, Daniel and Thomas, and sister, Cecilia (Mrs. William) Foley. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Thursday at the Church of St. Raphael, 7301 Bass Lake Rd., Crystal. Int. Ft. Snelling. Visitation Weds 6-8 PM with 7 PM KC rosary at Gearty- Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel, 3888 W. Broadway and Thursday at church 1 hr. before Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Raphael Parish or The MN. Air National Guard Museum. Gearty-Delmore 763-537-4511
