Pilot Officer Charles Beeching O'Hanley is commemorated on Page 40 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
Lockheed Hudson #AM896 aircraft was one of 12 Hudsons taking flight from RCAF Debert, on their final long-distance exercise before being ferried across the Atlantic (AFTERO-Atlantic Ferry Operations), the intended destination being Windsor, Ontario; shortly after taking off AM896 tragically crashed into the ground near Great Village, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, and took the lives of its four aircrew.
The four airmen who perished in this accident were-
RCAF Pilot Officer Charles Beeching O'HANLEY,
RCAF Sergeant Robert Frederick KELLEY,
RCAF Pilot Officer Richard Aubrey LUARD and
RAF Sergeant Norman Leonard HORNSEY.
