On March 28, 1901 Allen W. Wilkinson, a barber, was one of the first black Officers to be appointed to the Saint Louis Police Department as Probationary Police Officer.

He was assigned as a Special Officer under the supervision of the Chief of Detectives and was never to appear in police uniform.

Police Officer Allen W. Wilkinson was dismissed October 16, 1903 over a complaint from a saloon owner. Officer Allen W. Wilkinson was reinstated in 1906.

At the time of his death the death certificate listed his age at about 70 years of age.

The wake and funeral were held at the Raleigh Manuel Undertaking Company located at 4059 Finney Ave.

Burial took place at Calvary Cemetery on 07/10/1925.
