Elizabeth DeJarnette Eskridge
PRINCETON - Elizabeth 'Tugar' DeJarnette Eskridge, 83, of 226 Center St. in Princeton, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at her residence.
Born in Princeton, April 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late H.E. and Bessie Beckwith DeJarnette.
She retired with 30 years of service in the chemical lab of Celanese Corporation in Narrows, Va. She was a member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church where she was a former circle leader. She was a 1937 graduate of Princeton High School and a 1941 graduate of Hollins College where she earned her degree in chemistry. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution currently serving as Vice Regent and Historian. She also served the D.A.R. on the veterans committee and supporting D.A.R. schools for the education of children. She was recently nominated as D.A.R. Member of the Year. She served her community as a member of the committee to honor World War ll veterans and was honored by the JROTC who named her Colonel of the Corp. She also served on the Women's Auxiliary of the GlenWood Park Retirement Village. She supported Princeton Public Library serving in the Friends of the Library organization and as a weekly volunteer.
In addition to her parents, one brother, Hampton DeJarnette, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, William N. 'Bill' Eskridge of Washington, D.C. and Henry M. Eskridge of Snohomish, Wash.; one daughter, Betsy Eskridge and her partner Lois VanBeers and their son Ben of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-in-law, Mildred 'Pedie' DeJarnette of Andrews, N.C.; and close friend, Dreama Hubbard of Princeton.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at the Princeton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ed Pettus officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Park Cemetery in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call at the residence located at 226 Center St. in Princeton from 5- 7 p.m. today. Those attending the visitation may park at Seaver Funeral Home and walk or take advantage of the shuttle service that will be provided to and from the residence.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Princeton Public Library, 207 Center St., Princeton, WV 24740.
Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
