Born May 23, 1936 to Claude and Edith Omal Harter Gable, Marilyn, the youngest of five siblings, grew up in Laclede, MO, where she attended Plum Grove School and graduated from Laclede High School where she played basketball.

At 18, while working at a local nursing home, she was introduced to her boss Louise Clough's brother Kenneth Holloway, a young airman home on leave.

Their two week courtship turned into an engagement. On February 10, 1955 they married - a union that would last 59 years until his passing in December, 2014.

Together, they raised four children.

As an Air Force wife, Marilyn made a home for her family at seven different bases. Whether in a trailer, base housing or an off base rental, she set about making memories for her family.

Their many locations may have her picking mangos in Puerto Rico or bundling up her children for the below freezing temps of Labrador, Canada.

Their cross country caravans always included a menagerie of pets including dogs, cats, horses and a couple of parakeets.

In addition to making a home, she made friends everywhere she went and was deeply committed to staying in touch with her military family.

Her Christmas card list was extensive.

After resettling in Brookfield, Marilyn cared for children in her home.

Considering her charges extended family, she took great pride in them and their now growing families.

After retiring, she volunteered for Pershing Memorial Hospital where she was elected Auxiliary President and served a number of terms.

Whether she was working at the gift shop or making sandwiches for the employee appreciation lunch, she loved her hospital projects.

Even during her extended illness, if she had a good day she'd go to work at the hospital.

Her home was full of board games and toys, there was usually a card game underway at the dining table and something wonderful in the oven.

She loved gardening, camping, and animals - her rescue pup, Little Bit, was her constant companion these last three years.

She was a wonderful cook - we will miss her mincemeat pie, pear honey jam, apple crisp and her creativity with Jell-O.

She is preceded by her Husband, Ken; Parents Claude and Edith Omal Harter Gable and siblings Skeet, Howard, Eunice and Buddy.

Marilyn is survived by her children, ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, and a fifth on the way.

She leaves many beloved nieces and nephews, sisters in law, and dear friends.

Her family extends their deepest gratitude to Leland and Mary Beth Kelley for their devotion and care during her many cancer treatments.
