CONNEAUT — EloiseJ. B ennett, age 89, of
Conneaut, Ohio, died Wednesday morning,
August 13,2008, at the home of her
daughter.
Bom May 20, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Clayton S. and Opal I.(Lawrence) Harley.
Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker and lived
most of her life in Conneaut where she was
a member of Amboy United Methodist
Church, and belonged to the Happy Oldsters for
the past 19 years. She enjoyed reading, knitting,
crocheting, birdwatching, collecting
thimbles, watching the Cleveland Indians and
Chicago Cubs, playing cards, traveling, and
spending time with her grandchildren, greatgrandchildren,
and her one great-great-grandchild.
Survivors include her daughter, Opal I.
Goodenow of Conneaut, Ohio; two daughters-in-law,
Patricia Bennett and Lois Bennett; two
sisters, Dorothy H. Tidwell of Gerry, N.Y,
and Ruth Taylor of Ashtabula, Ohio; two
brothers, Clayton Harley and Howard Harley both
of Ashtabula, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband Willis L.Bennett, Sr. in 2007; two
sons, Willis L. Bennett, Jr. and Robert C.
Bennett; two brothers, Kenneth and Lloyd
Harley; her son-in-law, Harry Goodenow; a
daughter-in-law Sandra Bennett; and two grandsons,
Gary Bennett and Larry Olekshuk. Bennett
Mr. and Mrc. Willis Bennett of Conneaut
are celebrating their 68th wedding
anniversary.
Willis and Eloise Jane (Harley) were
married July 1, 1936, at the Free
Methodist Church parsonage.
The couple have a daughter, Opal Goodenow
of Conneaut, and two sons, the late
Robert and the late Willis Jr. They also
have 15 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.
They are members of Amboy United
Methodist Church.
