Marie Moore Markunas, nee Stillo, 78, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2009, the Holy Day of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, in Naples, Fla., formerly of Elmhurst, Ill. Beloved wife of the late James F. Moore and the late Edward P. Markunas; loving mother of James G. Moore, David M. (Diane) Moore, Michael P. (Amy) Moore and Michelle L. Moore; grandmother of Brianna, Andrew, Mallory, Patrick, Emma and Geoffrey; sister of Dolores (Robert) Weishaupt and Palma (the late Phillip) Bucaro and the late Charles Stillo; sister-in-law of Marian Stillo; aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Marie was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and a woman of great strength and dignity. After the death of her first husband, she worked hard to provide for her four children. She was blessed to have been married to Edward and enjoyed their retirement in Florida, volunteering their time and tireless energy to St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, the St. Vincent DePaul Society (where she served as Conference President), the Naples Italian American Club (now known as the Italian American Society of Southwest Florida), the American Ex-Prisoners of War and the Combat Infantry Veterans Association. She was greatly blessed with six beautiful healthy and precious grandchildren who were her greatest joy. All those fortunate enough to know her were blessed in an extraordinary way. We loved her greatly and will miss her more than words can say.

A Memorial Mass was held in remembrance of Marie on Dec. 12, 2009, Fr. Michael J. Bolger presiding, at Visitation Catholic Church in Elmhurst, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Collier County Humane Society or Hospice of Naples.
