Earnest “Pug” Vickers was a well known businessman and onetime banker in Carroll County, Tennessee. He once served as mayor of Huntingdon and as a magistrate on the county court, now known as the county commission. He owned Vickers Motors, a dealership in Huntingdon that sold Buick, Opal, and GMC trucks. In conjunction with his automotive dealership, Vickers operated a motorcycle dealership in Huntingdon that was touted as “The World's Largest Honda Dealership" and was advertised on Chicago's AM radio, 89 WLS. Vickers was also associated with Vickers Amusement, which owned electronic gaming machines. In 1982, Vickers' Carroll County Bank failed and was closed by the FDIC. After lengthy litigation, he was convicted of fraud and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment.

During WWII, Vickers served as a P-51 Mustang pilot. After the war, he continued as a general aviator and maintained a grass landing strip at his home in Huntingdon. The strip often served small aircraft visiting the county prior to the building of the Carroll County Airport in 1986.
