Atkinson County Citizen - April 2006
Ronnie H. McGovern, 57, of Pearson died April 26, 2006 at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
A long time resident of Atkinson County, he was born October 14, 1948 in Coffee County, son of Hubert and Dorothy Johnson McGovern. He was a retired maintenance worker from Langboard Incorporated and a member of American Legion, Post 173, the National Rifle Association and Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and attended Ozias Freewill Baptist Church where he was chairman of the Ozias Brotherhood Association.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Chauncey McGovern of Pearson; son, Darin Ballance of Pearson; daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and William Bedgood and Tina and Danny Smith, all of Pearson; brother, Rodney McGovern of Alapaha; sisters and one brother-in-law, Diane Mathis of Nashville and Angela and Trevor White, all of Nashville; grandchildren, McKade Balliance, Brooke Ballance, Zachary White, Ashleigh White, Ansleigh White, Candace Bedgood, Chasity Bedgood, Brayden Smith and Kasey Smith.
Funeral services were held at April 29 at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Johnson and David Rowe officiating with special memories given by McKade and Darin Ballance. Musical selections include "Not Afraid" by Michael Johnson and Greg Soles with Michael Johnson accompanying on the keyboard, "Call My Name Once More" by Rex and Tori Smith" and "When I Get Where I'm Going" soft music for the prelude and postlude was provided by Joyce Johnson at the piano and Michael Johnson on the keyboard.
Interment was in Ozias Cemetery with special music, "Amazing Grace" by Joe Ashcraft on the bagpipes and Military Honors rendered by an honor guard contingent from Fort Stewart.
Active pallbearers were Gary Hall, James Sears, Myron Jack McKinnon, David Ballance, Dan Vickers, Dan Clement, Steve Sirmans and Craig Carver.
Honorary pallbearers were the Ozias Men's Brotherhood.
Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson was in charge of arrangements.
