Melvin Lee Ellingson passed away at home on January 7, 2004 at the age of 81. He wanted to stay with us but his body was simply worn out after living a long life.

Born on April 1, 1922 in Canada to Berg and Eva Ellingson, Mel is the husband of Audrey Jones Ellingson, the father of nine children: Beverly (Ken) Seegmiller, Dick (Bonnie), Dwain (Donna), Janet, Darren (Cindy), Lynda, Lamont, Barbara and Ruth (Tim) Tapp, the grandfather of 25, and the great-grandfather of 29, all of whom survive him. Also survived by his brother Wayne Ellingson. Mel's happiest days were the annual anniversary/Christmas parties when all the family gathered to eat and laugh.

Mel and Audrey met in Salt Lake City during the fall of 1942 and married on December 23, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly after the marriage he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Great Britain during World War II. After the war, he and Audrey settled in Salt Lake City, remaining here their entire lives with the exception of a brief residency in Calgary, Canada. He believed the greatest gift he could give his children was to love their mother. He loved Audrey deeply.

Mel was a master carpenter who built many fine homes in the Salt Lake Valley during the 1950s and 1960s. During the 1970s he started a successful kitchen remodeling company, Style Art Industries. He loved teaching people how to be successful salesmen and he was honest in all his business dealings. His primary goal in life was to provide well for his wife and family. He accomplished the goal admirably because he always did what he believed was best for his family. Providing food, clothing and shelter was the way he expressed his love.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served on the high councils of the Salt Lake Canyon Rim and Calgary Alberta stakes. He and Audrey served missions in Lima, Peru, Tallahassee, FL, and Independence, MO.
