Professional Baseball Player. He played second base and was playing for the Butte of the Northwestern league when he joined the Philadelphia Athletics in 1916, playing second base and played twenty games with a batting average of .274 his first year. Playing second base in 1917, he played in 141 games with a .224 batting average, and set a record for forty three sacrifice hits which is still a team record today. In June, 1918, he played twenty two games for the Athletics at second base with a batting average of .187 and was traded to the Washington Senators, and ended his baseball career the same year. It has been written that Roy Grover played with a very poor Philadelphia Athletics team, joining them when they had won only thirty six games in 1916 and only fifty five games in 1917. When he was traded to the Washington Senators, they had won only fifty seven games. During his three year career in professional baseball, he had a .226 batting average for two hundred seven games. He later scouted for the New York Yankees, lectured on baseball at San Jose State University in California, and also published a book of poems about baseball.
