Entertainer. He will probably be best remembered for playing the voices of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in the animated 'Beatles' TV series (1965 to 1967). Born John Lancelot Blades Percival, he made a name for himself as the political satire singer in the TV series "That Was the Week That Was" and from this success, he was able to launch a film career. He landed a role in the popular British "Carry On" film series with "Carry On Cruising" (1962) and appeared in the pictures "The Yellow Rolls-Royce" (1964), "You Must Be Joking!" (1965) and the 'Herman's Hermits' vehicle "Mrs. Brown, You Got a Lovely Daughter" (1968). Percival lent his voice for the part of 'Old Fred' in 'the Beatles' animated picture "Yellow Submarine" (1968). Additionally, he scored a Top-40 hit on the British charts with the calypso-influenced song "Shame and Scandal in the Family" (1965). He had the recurring role of 'Proudfoot' in the British children's program "Bluebirds" (1989).
