DONALD, JANE
Buried: 19 Jun 1866
Lot 16575 Section 167

Green-Wood Cemetery
Section 167, adjacent Lots 16575 (left) and 16576 (right).
[NOTE: Most individuals buried here are not memorialized by any currently visible or legible stone or inscription. A list of lot occupants, with burial dates, appears after the inscriptions.]

The DONALD lot (16575) at left is completely unmarked. Two stones stand on the WADDELL lot (16576) at right These two lots were purchased at the same time, which suggests a connection between the families. Nothing in the inscriptions makes this connection clear.

INSCRIPTIONS
Two stones at right, left to right:
1
In God's Care
WADDELL
1913 Edward 1977
2

WADDELL
William Waddell 1885-1931
Jennie Waddell 1887-1944
Gertrude J. Waddell 1909-1958

Next to this stone is a medallion inscribed: Fire Square Club of N. Y. City. The Fire Square Club of New York City was composed of Freemasons who were either employed by or affiliated with the Fire Department of the City of New York. Founded in the early 1920s, it acted as a social club for men who were in a dangerous line of work. Like many Masonic Clubs, it fielded its own degree team and provided some extra charitable benefits to members. Presumably, William Waddell was a member, but his son Edward was also a fireman.
[NOTE: Lot burial list from online cemetery records, with burial dates, which may represent reburials after removal from previous graves. Asterisks indicate those buried without visible stone and/or legible inscription. This list may be incomplete.
