Motion Picture Producer, Director. His father was legendary film producer Samuel Goldwyn, his mother was actress Frances Howard, Samuel Jr., lived a lavished childhood within the shadows of Hollywood. Following service with the United States Army during World War II, he went to Britain, where he worked with the J. Arthur Rank Company as a writer and associate producer. He later returned to the United States and worked in TV, which included a period for news legend Edward R. Murrow at CBS. During the mid-1950s, he launched Formosa Productions and produced the Robert Mitchum picture "The Man with the Gun" (1955). In 1964, Goldwyn directed the feature "The Young Lovers". Among his other film credits include "Huckleberry Finn" (1960), "Cotton Comes to Harlem" (1970), "Mystic Pizza" (1988) and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of of the World" (2003, which earned an Academy Award nomination). He was formerly married to actress Jennifer Howard and TV writer Peggy Elliott. His son John Goldwyn became a producer and his son Tony Goldwyn became an actor (both with Jennifer Howard).
