Orsola Marinelli, 83, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, her Savior, on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born on February 9, 1931, in Naples, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Furtuna and Antonia Cavezza.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luigi Marinelli, and several brothers and sisters.
Orsola came to the United States in 1956 and was a passenger on the ship Andrea Doria.
She was a survivor of the Andrea Doria shipwreck just off the coast to New York and was saved by the Stockholm ship that had collided into it.
Orsola had worked at the Cumberland Blouse Factory on Centre Street and also the Cumberland Macaroni Factory until she retired.
She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and was a member of the Solidarity Club of St. Mary's Church before she became ill. Orsola loved being with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Joseph Marinelli of Cumberland, Anna Landis of Cumberland, and John Marinelli and wife DeAnn of Clearville, PA; four grandchildren, Tyler Landis of Cumberland, Christopher Marinelli, Joel Marinelli, and Alia Marinelli, all of Clearville, PA; three sisters, Giusappian, Carmella, and Estarene; two brothers, Salvatore and Luigi.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 2-4:00 p.m. and 7-9:00 p.m.
A Christian Wake service will also be held Thursday afternoon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Steve Fernandez, O.F.M.,Cap. officiating.
Interment will immediately follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery Condolences for the family may be left at www.scarpellifh.com
