MATEUS, Carlos A. -- 84, on Feb. 4, 2002 in Redwood City. He was a resident of Belmont for many years. He was an Aerospace Engineer, retiring in 1988 from Lockheed Missile and Space. He was an Electrical Engineer in the design of Navel Aircraft during WWII. In 1951, he transferred to the Missiles and Space Division of Douglas Aircraft Co. He was then transferred to White Sands, New Mexico where he worked on the Nike Project in 1952. In 1956, he was promoted to Director of Quality Assurance for the Nike Zeus and Hercules Programs in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1959, he joined Lockheed's Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale, where he was assigned to the Quality Assurance Program for the Agena Project. For the remainder of his career at Lockheed he worked on top secret satellite programs for the Government. His wife, Stella preceded him in death in 2000. His daughter, Carol Ann and son, Charles Robert, granddaughters Veronica Ann and Elena Marie, and his sister, Julie B. Calvo survive him. A Vigil will be held Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at Duggan's Carlmont Chapel, 1101 Alameda in Belmont The Mass of Resurrection will be said Saturday, Feb 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1040 Alameda in Belmont.
