On June 18, 1965, he was a crew member of a Boeing Stratofortress Bomber (B-52F) performing a mission over the South China Sea about 250 miles offshore from the Demilitarized Zone when it collided with another B-52F. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial
