William was a son of Henry & Nancy (Filler) Snoots. In 1857 he was married to Charity Richardson and they had these children: Lyman, Ada Moore (predeceased him in 1895), Esther Miller, Walter, Alice Wilson, Nora Palen, Addison and Clyde. Charity died in 1902.
He was for many years a blacksmith in Adamsville, Otsego and in Guernsey Co. before finally settling in Norwich about 1874. During the Civil War he served as a private in Co. E. of the 160th Ohio Inf. His brothers Jacob, John and George all served with him in Co. E.
In the spring of 1913 he had returned to Adamsville to spend the summer at the home of his sister Sarah Harress when he died suddenly of heart trouble.
