"Joseph D. Thompson passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Wiles on East Hill on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 1934, following a lingering illness of heart trouble. Mr. Thompson was 81 years of age and was born in the town of Cherry Valley on Jauary 11, 1853, the son of Jason Thompson and Harriet Richardson. Practically all of his life he had lived in Cherry Valley, an honored and respected citizen. He was a member of the M. E. church of Roseboom. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Wiles home with the Rev. William Powell Hill of the Grace Episcopal Church officiating. He was laid to rest in the Cherry Valley cemetery. Mr. Thompson is survived by four children: Geo. W. Thompson of Morristown, N.J.; Mrs. Eliza Harris of Scotia, Orrin Thompson of Roseboom, Mrs. Grace M. Wiles of Cherry Valley; also by eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren."
