Actor and comedian. He entertained TV audiences in Canada and the U.S. for decades with his comic alter ego Charlie Farquharson. In 1956 he co-wrote the script for the television musical “Anne of Green Gables.” Later, in 1965, he adapted the production for stage and called it “Anne of Green Gables – The Musical.” He first introduced his character, Farquharson, on a 1952 CBS television revue. His country bumpkin persona became a favorite on the American television variety show “Hee Haw” from 1969-82. He also made guest appearances on numerous American and Canadian television programs during his career. Harron also wrote several popular books as the character Charlie Farquharson. For his contributions to the Canadian entertainment industry he was named a member of the Order of Ontario and also the Order of Canada. He was given the Gemini Award for Lifetime Achievement in Radio and Television. In addition, Harron served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In 2010 Harron was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. He died of cancer.
