Katee Cornwell, 13, daughter of Lyle and Marsha (Laytham) Cornwell of Rt., Ursa, Il. died in Children's Hospital in St. Louis on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1989 at 10:57 a.m.
Katee was a graduate Greenfield Elementary School and was presently in the eighth grade at Unity Middle School. Katee was a member of the volleyball team and had been captain of the seventh grade team, a member of the track team, a cheerleader, a member of the Library Club and on the honor roll. Katee was also manager of the varsity girls volleyball team and was recently nominated for All American Scholar. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.
Katee is survived by her parents, two sisters, Kelle and Kristen Cornwell, both at home, a brother, Kasey Cornwell at home; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Pauline Laytham of Quincy; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cornwell of Quincy; six aunts and uncles, David Laytham of Quincy, Mrs. Brad (Cheryl) Knox of Ursa, Mrs. Ray (Connie) Corrigan of Mendon, Dennis Cornwell of rural Quincy, Alan Cornwell of Mendon and Brian Cornwell of Ursa.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Hugh Laytham.
Services were held Friday, February 10, 1989 at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. followed by church services at St. Edward Catholic Church. Services were conducted by Rev. John Beveridge with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday evening from 4-8 and Friday preceding the services.
A Wake service was held Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
