Henry was born an only child to Irmah and Lizzie in Fall River, Massachusetts where he grew up. In 1916 Henry worked as a machinist at 95 Anawan in Fall River. Henry worked as a Street Car Conductor for the Bay State Street Railway Company of Newport, Rhode Island during 1918.
Henry was married to Helen Norton before he got married to Yvonne Carpenter and moved to California in 1923. Once in California Henry worked in the retail grocery business in Sacramento.
Henry and family moved to San Rafael, California where he worked at Hamilton Air Force Base and raised his six children with Yvonne.
