Zachariah was the son of Henry Tate and Mary Whitworth. On 08 Sep 1920 he married Mattie Padgett and they had five children: Robert, Mary, Henry, Charles (Omer) and Joseph. As a young man he was a farm laborer. In the 1930's he was a railroad worker. The 1940 Census enumerated his occupation as time keeper for the W.P.A. According to his death certificate, at the time of his death he was a gas station operator. Zachariah died of pulmonary congestion at the age of 55.
