ELLIS - Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Kirk Evan Sessin, US Army (Retired), 55, passed away on December 17, 2014. Kirk was born on February 12, 1959 in Hays, Kansas. Following his High School graduation from Shawnee Heights High in 1977, he enlisted and entered the U.S. Army. He attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and upon graduation he reported to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, WA. He was united in marriage to Debbie Mullins in 1978, and she joined him at Fort Lewis, WA. He was honorably discharged in 1980, and returned home to Kansas to pursue a Bachelor s Degree at Kansas State University. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science with an emphasis on Dairy. In 1987, he again entered the U.S. Army, and attended the Officer Candidate School (OCS),Fort Benning, GA. After successfully completing OCS, he attended the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Fort Sill, OK, and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC. He attended the Field Artillery Officers Advanced Course at Fort Sill, OK, and upon graduation was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 1st U.S. Cavalry, 1st Armored Division, Buedingen, Germany as the Squadron Fire Support Officer. He commanded a Field Artillery Battery in Giessen, Germany with the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery, and deployed to Kuwait. He was then subsequently assigned in Evansville,IN, and assisted in the training of Army National Guard units. Following this assignment, he attended the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Upon graduation, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas, and deployed to combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was selected for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, and was selected for Battalion Command with the 2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, TX. His combat deployments include: Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lieutenant Colonel Sessin retired honorably from Active duty service on December 31, 2007. Kirk and Debbie were soon divorced.
Kirk deployed to Afghanistan as a contractor in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and served there for 6 years. Kirk remarried to Ma. Dioresa Duaban on May 27th 2011, and she survives.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his mother, Roma Sessin of Topeka, his daughters; Rachael Sessin, Melissa Mulvaney, both of Lansing, Sarah Sessin of Junction City, Nicolette Sessin of Manhattan, his 10 grandchildren; Lily, Isabelle, Olivia, Roy, Zane, Scarlett, Cedric, Adrian, Ayona, Taetum, his aunt and uncle, Connie and Milton King and his cousin, Joseph King of Ellis, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his Brother Scott, his dad, Guy Wayne Sessin, and his Grandparents. Funeral services will be 3 PM Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis, KS. Visitation will Be Saturday 10 AM 12 Noon and 2 PM service time all at the church. Arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E 17th Ellis, KS 67637.
