Joseph Ocie Fortner died March 11, 1967 at Coahoma Hospital afer an illness of six weeks. Funeral services were at Kimbro Funeral Home Chapel in Marks with Rev. Charles Ellis of West Marks and Rev. W.L. Wages of Lambert officiating. Burial was in Sapa Cemetery near Eupora.

Mr. Fortner was born November 18, 1896 at Mantee, Miss. in Webster County. He moved to Quitman County in 1930 near the town of Lambert and had farming interests here until his death.

He left his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Henley Fortner of Lambert; four sons, Ottice N. Fortner of Lambert, James L. Fortner of Marks, Howard K. Fortner of Jackson, and Bobby D. Fortner of Memphis; two daughters, Mrs. Nona Frances Ashby of Memphis and Mrs. Julia Bernice Ferguson of Vardaman; one brother, W.O. Fortner of Lambert; one sister, Mrs. Essie Johnson of Houston, Miss. and 16 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Billy Shellman, W.A. Crawford, Fletcher Haynes, James H. Aldridge, T.J. Long, and J.W. Bland.
