Sam was a previous owner of the Old Mill Inn, New Oxford, for over 35 years, along with his brother Kenneth and their wives, Dot and Iris. For the next ten years he worked and retired from the McSherrystown Home Association. While owners of the Old Mill, he and his brother sponsored many girl’s and men’s softball teams, pool and dart leagues. He was a life member of McSherrystown Home Assoc., New Oxford Social Club, Hanover VFW and American Legion. Over the past 20 years, he enjoyed spending fall with his daughter Sandy and her family in North Carolina and his winters in Florida with his daughter Diane and her family. He was an avid Florida State and Tampa Bay fan and also enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family and friends. Sam proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps being awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained in the Pacific Theater during WW II.
Surviving are three daughters; Candace “Candy” Trone and her husband Gregory of New Oxford, Sandra “Sis” Weikert and her husband Tom of Clinton, NC and Diane Ellis and her fiancé Gene Malifew of St. Petersburg, FL., eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six siblings; Mervin, Donald, Kenneth, Ward and Richard Bollinger and Nadine Hoffacker and two special companions; Irene Baker and Doris Little.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Oxford with Rev. Michael Letteer as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
