Leslie was born to parents Leslie Doris Oberlies Sr.(1896–1963) and Alice Jeanette Demeree (1896–1990). He worked as a contractor and Carpenter, served in WWII in the Navy, was a Marshall at the Rancho San Diego County Club. He was married at time of death to Mary Theresa who survived him. He was also married to Betty Josephine Sutton, family trees attribute at least four children to them, all living.

His obit states he was survived besides his spouse Mary Theresa by children Leslie D., James W. & Robert R. Oberlies, Mary Theresa Cecena, Julius A. Torres & Alice J. Gross, sister Charlotte Cox, brothers John W. & Robert R. Oberlies. 21 Grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandchild.
