Musician. He was a bassist best known for being an original member of the band, Buddy Holly and the Crickets. At age 16, he joined Holly's band then appeared on such early 1950s, rock-and-roll classics hits as "That'll Be the Day", "Peggy Sue", "Rave On, Oh, Boy!" and "Maybe Baby". After Holly's death in 1959, Mauldin went on to become an engineer at Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles, California. There he worked with artists to include Phil Spector, Herb Alpert, Leon Russell and many more. He also, performed though the years in countless Crickets rock-and-roll revue shows and reunions. In 2012, he with follow Crickets members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the West Texas Walk of Fame in Lubbock and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.
