Given Up Active Practice

One of the Most Skillful Surgeons in
Washington and an Authority
on Typhoid.

Dr. Charles G. Stone, for years one of WashingtonÂ’s leading physicians and surgeons died yesterday morning at his apartment in Fontanel Courts. He had been in ill health for years and not actively engaged in his profession.
Dr. Stone was born in Frederick, Md., in 1846, and would have been 69 years old the last day of this month. He first studied dentistry, and after obtaining a degree took a course in medicine at the Maryland Medical College. After his graduation he came to Washington and commenced practice in 1889.
After maintaining a private practice for many years, in which period he became one of the most skillful surgeons in Washington and an authority on typhoid, Dr. Stone became head physician for the Washington Railway and Electric Company, holding that post from 1898 to 1908. At this time he suffered a nervous breakdown from which he never entirely recovered.
For years Dr. Stone lived at 5756 Georgia avenue and had a large number of patients in the suburbs. He moved to Fontanet Court only a month ago. He was a member of the American Medical Association and of the Medical Society of Washington.
Dr. Stone was twice married. He is survived by his second wife and the children of that marriage, Mrs. E. B. Cook, Miss Katherine H. Stone, G. Rapley Stone and Mrs. George H. Harris. The children of the first marriage surviving are Maj. John Hampton Stone, medical corps, United States army, Robert L. Stone, Lieut. William Charles Stone, U. S. A. and Mrs. Edward M. Cleary.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at the apartment and St. PaulÂ’s Rock Creek Church, where the Rev. Charles E. Buck will officiate. Interment will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.
