Dick Rogers, a former Madera, CA resident, died in a Modesto hospital after an extended bout with cancer. He was 78.

He attended schools in Fresno, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1943. He graduated from Fresno State College in 1949, interrupted by a stint in the Army Air Force. He continued at FSC for his teaching credentials (1951) and Masters of Education (1958).

He married Marjorie Chester in 1950 and established a family of three children in Fresno.

He taught business and math at Madera High School, Edison High School and McLane High School from 1951 to 1968, when the family moved to Columbia, CA.

He was part of the inaugural staff for the Columbia Junior College. For the next 14 years he served the college as instructor, administrator and/or advisor, as required.

He worked summers in Yosemite National Park from 1948 to 1987, and continued to do volunteer work, with his wife, in various national parks in the West through 2004.

He was a member of Los Palmas Lodge, Fresno Scottish Rite and Raisina Chapter OES.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Rogers of Columbia; two sons and their wives, Doug and Susan of Talent, Oregon and Mark and Sue of Manteca, CA; a sister, Barbara Louden of Biggs, CA; and three grandchildren. He is predeceased by another son, Chris.

Celebration of Life held in Columbia.

Heuton Memorial Chapel of Sonora is in charge of arrangements. (Just a temporary guess on the cemetery entry.)
