He was the son of the late Katherine Mae Honeycutt Walton and Oscar Lee Walton, Sr. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Virginia “Jenny” Hoover in 2000.
He was employed for the Salisbury Post from 1949-1956, he served in the US Navy from 1956-1962 and returned to the Salisbury Post where he served as City Circulation Manager until he retired in 2001.
He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church and Enon Baptist Church.
While serving in the US Navy he received a Letter of Commendation from Commander of Fighter Squadron 24 in 1958, Certified Combat Aircrew Member-1958, Good Conduct Medal in 1960, Presidential Unit Citation-1958 and the China Sea Campaign Medal in 1958.
