Obituary published in The Gospel Messenger, July 22, 1899, page 463:

BRUBAKER – In the Covina church, Covina, Cal., March 30, 1899, Bro. H. J. Brubaker, aged 71 years and 11 days. Deceased moved with his parents to Washington County, Tenn., at the age of ten years. In 1853 he moved to Story County, Iowa. He was married to Sarah E. Brown, in 1856. To this union were born three sons and seven daughters. Two daughters preceded him. He united with the Brethren church in 1857. He was elected to the deacon’s office in 1859. He moved to Colorado in 1890; to California in 1894. He leaves a wife and eight children. Bro. Henry was a faithful servant of the church, which he loved dearly. Services improved from Rev. 14: 13.
