Major League Baseball Player. For eleven seasons (1955 to 1958 and 1961 to 1967), he played at the outfielder position with the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians. Born James Hubert King, he secured the starting right field position with the Cubs and marked his Major League debut on April 17, 1955. In 1960, King earned MVP honors while playing with Toronto of the International League. While with the Senators in 1963, he produced a career-high 106 hits, which included 24 home runs. The following season, he earned a place in the history books, when he hit for the cycle in a Senators' uniform, against the Boston Red Sox on May 26, 1964. In 1,125 regular season games, he compiled 699 hits, which include 117 home runs and a .240 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, King worked for the telephone company in his native Arkansas.
