Miss America of 1933, Big Band Singer. She received recognition as the crowned 1932 Miss America at the age of 15½ years old, which made her the youngest Miss America in history. The dark hair-beauty was a blond for the competition. She held the title for two years as there was no competition in 1934. One of the contest prizes was a screen test from RKO studio, but the prize was not awarded as the studio stated she was too young. She became a public speaker and promoter of the Miss America Pageant. She began singing at age twelve and after the pageant, she performed with many popular bands, such as Rudy Vallee and Guy Lombardo. She was married three times. Her first marriage, to Donald Ruhlman, lasted until his death in 1972 and produced three children. She died of leukemia in Ohio in 2002 and was buried next to her first husband. As of 2023, she is the only Miss America from New England.
