Severyite, Severy, KS, April 15, 1898

John Woods was born in Green County, Kentucky, November 23, 1903, with his parents he removed, when young to Lawrence county, Ohio, where he remained until 1830, when her removed to Cass county, Indiana, and in 1853, he again removed to Lucas county, Iowa. In 1892, he came to Severy, Kansas where he made his home with his son, Hugh Woods, till his death. About the year 1825 he was married to Susanah Buffington, with whom he lived until her death February 22, 1889. They had ten children, six of them survive him as follows: Barbary Stumbugh and A. C. Woods both at Derby, Lucas county, Iowa. Hugh Woods and Susannah Wade, of Severy. James B. Woods, of Corrinth, Tennessee and Henry S. Woods, Aurora, Nebraska.
The deceased united with the M. E. church about 1842 and in 1859 he connected himself with the Baptist church. For over 50 years he lived a consistent christian life, and died in the faith.

Deaths
Woods-Sunday morning, April 10th, 1898, at the home of his son, northeast of Severy, Mr. John Woods, aged 94 years, 4 months and 18 days. Funeral services were held from the home Sunday morning, after which the body was laid to rest in Twin Groves Cemetery. His death was caused by old age. Mr Woods being the oldest man in Greenwood county. He had never been ill any, and until the day before his death, he was able to be out of doors and walked about the house.
