He was born July 25, 1917, in Franklin Township, a son of John Franklin and Emma Shultz Lightner.
On August 12, 1951, he married Mary M. West, who survives.
Mr. Lightner had lived in Waynesburg all his life with the exception of 10 years when he lived in Bridgeport, W. Va.
He was affiliated with the Methodist church.
He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Lightner had owned and operated the Lightner Battery and Ignition Shop in Waynesburg for several years. Before retiring in 1982, he was employed as maintenance superintendent at Waynesburg College for 12 years.
He was a former member of the Waynesburg Lions Club and a member of Waynesburg VFW Post 4793, a member and past secretary and master of Waynesburg Lodge 153, F&AM, Courgas Lodge, Pittsburgh, and Syria Temple, AAONMS.
