Frances Colleen Hilley Mashburn

June 27, 1929 – March 3, 2015

Frances Colleen Mashburn, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 3rd, 2015, after an extended illness following surgery.

Colleen was born on June 27th, 1929, in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, to Alice Ibera (Beasley) Hilley and Robbie Hilley.

She attended Holmes Bible College in 1949, in Greenville, South Carolina, where she met the love of her life, Robert Freeman Mashburn. They were later married on September 13th, 1949, in Ninety-Six, South Carolina.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Language Arts, and Reading Remediation from Bethany Nazarene University. Colleen also attended the University of Maryland, the University of Virginia, and Faulkner College in Bay Minnette, Alabama. She worked with Dr. W.R. Corvin in his Extension Bible College, and was the Principal of a Christian elementary school in Bay Minette, Alabama.

Colleen devoted her entire life to serving others. She served her country and her husband as the wife of an Army chaplain during the Korean and Vietnam wars, raising five children alone during a total of seventy-seven months while her husband, Freeman, was deployed overseas.

Later, when Freeman was called to preach in conferences and churches across the U.S., the question always asked was, “Is Colleen coming with you?” followed immediately by, “Will Colleen be singing?” Often called to sing with little-to-no preparation, she nevertheless moved many with her clear and powerful soprano voice.

Colleen is preceded in death by her parents Robbie and Ibera, a brother, John, and her sweetheart of sixty five years, Freeman, whom she cared for until his passing in February 2014.

She is survived by her five children: son, Bob and his wife Gaye of Morehead City, North Carolina; son Joe and his wife Alice of Weatherford, Oklahoma; son Jim and his wife Lindy of San Diego, California; daughter Pat and husband Brad of Roanoke, Virginia; and son John of Edmond, Oklahoma. Colleen is also survived by her brother, Julian (Leroy) Hilley and his wife Virginia, of Pelzer, South Carolina. Freeman and Colleen also leave behind a legacy of thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Colleen Mashburn are planned for: Sunday, March 8, 2015, at 3:00, p.m., at River of Life Church - 6901 NW 150th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73142; (405) 359-4174.

Colleen will be buried with her husband, Freeman, who is interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

She is currently resting at Vondel L Smith & Son Mortuary, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73142. Consistent with her wishes, there will not be a viewing as she desired to be remembered as she was prior to her final illness.

Her sweet spirit will be greatly missed; however, her family rejoices that she is reunited with her dear husband as well as her Savior. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the one of the three IPHC sponsored colleges and university.
