Donald S. Duke, 51, of Mather, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 1979, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a two-year illness.

He was born September 29, 1927, at Brier Hill, a son of John S. and Catherine Lesko Duke. His wife, Audrey Filby Duke, whom he married on December 27, 1950, survives.

Mr. Duke had lived most of his life at Mather. He was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson High School and was a member of St. Marcellus Church of Jefferson.

Mr. Duke had served in the Merchant Marines, and in 1949 entered the U.S. Army reserve for over 30 years and was recently promoted to Chief Warrant Officer Four with Co. C, 429th Engineer Battalon. He was also a civil service employee at the Army Reserve Center at Washington.

Mr. Duke had been employed for 17 years with the Mather Mine and was assistant foreman. For the last three years he had been employed at the Vesta Five Mine at Frederickstown. He was a member of UMW Local 762.

He was an active member of Filer Sadlek American Legion Post 594 and was serving as commander of the Legion's firing squad.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Audrey Duke, are two sons and one daughter.

One son, Donald, died in August 1978.
