Barbara (Malan) Strahl, 92, of Columbus, died at 4:43 p.m. Thursday, November 27, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Strahl was born December 10, 1921 in Wapella, Illinois, the oldest child of Orville and Thelma Zilles Malan. She married Martin Dale Strahl May 10, 1941 and he survives.

They recently celebrated 73 years of marriage. They have two daughters who survive, Laurel Hacker and husband, Keith of Marietta, Georgia and Diana Ogle and husband, Steve of Columbus. She graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1939. Mr. and Mrs. Strahl owned and operated Marine Motor Sales in Columbus for 21 years. For several years after selling their business, they divided their time between their Florida residence and their Grandview Lake residence enjoying their many friends and activities at both locations.

Mrs. Strahl was very active in the local community doing volunteer work for several decades. She was an architectural tour guide for Columbus. She was a member of the Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and the American Red Cross Blood Services. She was a member of First Christian Church and most recently served as a board member of Christians in Action. Her many interests included reading, crossword puzzles, travel, spectator sports and any activities involving the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and daughters, Mrs. Strahl is survived by four grandchildren, Chris, Renee, Leigh Anne, and Andy; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Phyllis McQueary, Karen Streeval, Faye Bracher; brothers, Howard Malan, Bob Malan, and Phillip Malan all of the local area and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Hendricks, Joan Weddle Martin, Thelma Chelf, and Esther Rutledge; and brothers, Orville Malan Jr., John Paul Malan, and Fred Malan.

The family will receive visitors at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. A celebration of life service will be held at the funeral home with her grandson, Chris Ogle officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
