George William Griffin, 76, of Centralia died Friday, June 11, 1993, at Pin Oaks Nursing Center in Mexico.

Mr. Griffin was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Guthrie to George Griffin and Mary Cundiff Griffin.

He served in the Merchant Marines from December 1941 to August 1945.

On March 20, 1937, he married Opal O'Donnell, and she survives.

He was a retired electrician for the city of Centralia and had served for many years as alderman of Ward One.

Surviving along with his wife are two sons, William Griffin of Mexico, Mo. (William Lee "Bill" Griffin
(February 11, 1938 - May 17, 2012), and Darrell Griffin of Seymore, Ind.; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Griffin and Harold Griffin.

One son, Rodney Griffin, has been Missing in action since May 2, 1970.

Burial Will be in East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Mexico, Mo..

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at the Fenton Funeral Chapel in Centralia with the Rev. Ed Varnum officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Mr. and Mra G.W. Griffin of Centralia observed their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday with a reception at the home of their-son, Mr. and Mrs. William Griffin and Teresa Ann, 116 Mary Street. Red decorated the lace covered table with the anniversary cake baked and decorated by Mrs. Darryl Griffin of Mexico, a daughter- in-law. .Others present were Darryl Griffin, son, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Maassen and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Brooks all of Mexico. The couple has one grandchild, Teresa Ann Griffin. Opal O'Donnell and G.W. Griffin were married March 20, 1937, and have lived their married lives together, in WeUsville, Mexico and Centralia. Mr. Griffin is employed as an electrician for the City of Centralia and Mrs. Griffin is a dispatcher at the .Centralia City Hall.
